Afterpants: Nether Regions PT. 19 (ne-no-Kuni)

While homelessness doesn't have a lot to offer humans, what it DOES have is plenty of space to stop and think.

Today's Nether Region is one of my absolute FAVS! Why? Because it's from Japanese folklore AND because it's sort of oddly non-descript AND because it's one of those "far away" underworlds.

The place is called Ne-No-Kuni. That essentially translates into "Root world"

Some texts say it where "bad" ppl go when they die. Others, the opposite!

In one text it's called "The home of my deceased mother"

Some ppl say it's ruled by. Suzano. Others...not.

Some ppl think it's the same as Yomi, others not.

Some ppl say it's underground, some under the sea. (Allow me to again point out the cross cultural idea that "underground" and "under the sea" have the same meaning....the AFTERLIFE! YAY!!!!)

Anyway, personally I think the Yamatos borrowed the idea from the Ainu as they have A story about....you guessed it....someone going to the "underground underworld" and eating the food. Tsk Tsk.

Ne-ho-kuni is like a colorful pair of mid-rise briefs.

He should have read other cultures stories about eating he'll food.

Anyway. 4 out of 5 Hellbriefs. Yay!
