Afterpants: Nether Regions pt14 (Jahannam)
Ok. So today's entry is supposed to be about Jahannam جهنم
Now, while I have a deep and abiding respect for Middle-eastern culture
(via Sumeria and Babylon) I actually don't want to spend a lot of time talking about this Nether Region. Why? Well, I feel like the problem is two-fold
Do I believe that certain acts should be/are addressed in the afterlife as a form of behavioral management? Yes. BUT, again as I mentioned in a previous post I believe that that sort of care should come based on your INTENT not a hard fast rule for everyone. So the idea of "sin" kind of makes my skin itch. (And I should know, I recently picked up a case of poison oak...I swear it looks like I have leprosy.)
As I mentioned in a different post (which I can't find) the idea of a "permanent punishment" for "sins" is neither true nor does it make any sense.
(Update: I just read that some practitioners of Islam believe that Jahannam is temporary!)
Well, Jahannam (aka Gehinnam in the Hebrew) has both of these elements.
It's basically just your typical ideal of "hell"(the Abrahamic religions) fire/smoke/darkness in general there are several levels of Jahannam for different sins and different kinds of people.
(Side note: Jahannam has a basement...apparently it's quite cold there...it's called Zamhareer)
It is located under the earth. It's scary and horrifying.
It is, in this authors opinion, a pair of old, baggy boxers that should have been thrown out a long time ago yet rest neatly in your underwear drawer.
(For those who haven't read my other posts...part of the humor of this blog is that I use different types of underwear to describe different types of afterlives/supernatural beings and activities.)
So, to make a long and terrible story short. If you're a practitioner of Islam, and you're naughty, then Allah will be mad at you and put you in the quiet corner forever and ever.
The end.
Afterpants gives Jahannam 2 out of 5 Hellbriefs
(but the same will apply to any permanent hell so...there's that)
